HSSMI help launch EKC Group learning zone
/0 Comments/in Uncategorized /by Emily Laver
The HSSMI team were on hand to support the launch of the EKC Group’s green engineering learning zone at Canterbury College as part of the conclusion to an 18 month project we have been consulting on. The equipment in the learning zone includes: a 6-axis robot, collaborative robots (cobots), a virtual reality demonstration area, a series of Microsoft hololenses, a scaled down production demonstrator rig, an electric vehicle test rig and advanced 3D printing equipment.
It was a pleasure to join businesses, students, local government, and industry stakeholders on the day to showcase the new equipment and facilities on offer. The developed space will provide an area to cultivate much needed sustainability and digitalisation skills, both for industry and college students to create leaders of the future.
Over the past 18 months, HSSMI has operated as a consultant to EKC to advise on aspects such as: what equipment should be installed and how it should be laid out, as well as in coordinating a string of workshops and events focused on capturing key skills gaps and development requirements from industry, to feed into the development of new college curricula and industry engagement services. HSSMI also developed a Virtual Reality (VR) model of the green engineering zone to: a) create training exercises for students to teach them how to safely operate a 6-axis robot before they are unleashed on the real thing, and b) to augment additional digital models of production equipment to create more immersive scenarios for how the technology is used in the real world. HSSMI’s Tosin Famusudo and Sai Prakash Kambala were on hand to demo the VR environment with delegates, whilst Engineering Director, David Stewart, spoke about the opportunities that Generative AI could unlock for the manufacturing sector.
