2018: The Road Ahead

Welcome 2018!
The new year has truly started with a high pace for HSSMI! We are entering the second year of our 5-year plan with new director appointments, services and projects. The plan reflects our ambition to provide exceptional support to manufacturing businesses on a regional level to deploy new technologies or upscale new technologies into volume production. We have been successful to start strategic new projects in 2018 – offering exciting career opportunities for people to join HSSMI who share our passion for manufacturing!
New appointments of Engineering Directors and Commercial Director
HSSMI has appointed three new Engineering Directors to reflect and support the organisation’s substantial and continued growth in the different regions. Satwik Mehta was appointed Engineering Director for London. Satwik joined HSSMI from Volkswagen Group and has been leading the Virtual Engineering team in London over the last two years. Our regional office in Birmingham will be led by Hosein Torabmostaedi, who previously was our Strategic Account Manager and joined us originally from Cranfield University. Engineering Director for our new office in Glasgow is David Stewart. David previously had the role of manager for sustainable manufacturing at HSSMI and joined us in 2013 from Clyde Blowers where he was a Management Consultant.
We are glad to announce that Victoria Tewes will take on the role as Commercial Director and lead the commercial team. Victoria has been the Strategic Account Manager for the South of England previously and will now lead the overall commercial offering to our partners and customers.
Congratulations to all four new appointed Directors!
Commercial services
We are keen to support individual businesses with dedicated local support. We have been able to translate our latest knowledge from research projects into services which can be effectively and efficiently translated into commercial benefits to our customers. Some of the services which we will offer to our partners are collaborative robot applications, support for design for end of life, development of new digital applications and readiness assessments as well as support for supply chain development and assessment.
New strategic projects
2018 will see us kicking-off major new projects. As announced last year, we will start project VALUABLE which will develop new solutions for traction batteries at the end of their useful first life. Electrification of the automotive powertrain and the upscaling of manufacturing will remain a key focus. We are excited to be part of an APC funded project led by Ford – E:PrIME – Electrified powertrain pilot line for Manufacturing Engineering. The project will create unique capabilities for ultra-high volume manufacture of next generation powertrains. Additive Manufacturing for volume production will be a prominent area in 2018, with us starting two new projects in this area.
Careers at HSSMI
The HSSMI team consists now of 56 employees and we will be welcoming new starters to increase the number of HSSMI staff to 75 by the end of 2018. Do not hesitate to get in touch if you want to be part of the HSSMI journey!
