Delivering a Step Change Nationwide

At the end of last year, HSSMI, as a result of demand and commercial necessity set up a new business unit based in Glasgow to deliver support to the manufacturing community in Scotland and the North East of England. This was to enable us to become more productive, innovative and sustainable as an organisation.
This presents a major milestone in the expansion of the HSSMI group, not only in the development of new jobs, projects and opportunities, but in the diversification of our manufacturing network into new sectors and businesses.
Since establishing an office in Glasgow, we have begun to deliver new programmes with new organisations across the Marine, Oil & Gas, Food & Drink, Aerospace, Textiles and Energy sectors, as well as strengthening current relationships with existing partners.
The delivery of work across these sectors has stayed true to our four core themes – Virtual Engineering (VE), Manufacturing New Technologies (MNT), Data Analytics for Resource Efficiency (DARE) and Circular Value Chains (CVC). Projects include:
– The development and piloting of an Industry 4.0 diagnostic and roadmapping toolset for Scottish Enterprise. The toolset is set to be rolled out as Scottish Government’s ‘Manufacturing 4.0’ service, part of the manufacturing action plan
– The management and delivery of a marine hybridisation project, focused on the development of hardware and software to optimise environmental and vessel performance of hybrid propulsion systems
– The delivery of business support to emerging businesses in Scotland to facilitate the adoption of circular economy principles and practices as part of a contract with Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS)
Critical to the successful delivery of these projects and our future ability to grow, is the recruitment of talented people to join our high calibre teams. In Scotland, we have the ambition to grow our team to six people by the end of 2018, twelve people by the end of 2019, and twenty people by 2020.
Over the next two years, we will create new positions across both our technical and commercial teams and give our people the opportunity to lead highly innovative projects, focused on generating practical solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing the sustainability of our environment and economy.
