Oort Energy is looking to rapidly deploy their class leading hydrogen PEM electrolyser technology, making the uptake of green hydrogen economically viable, driving market demand as global economies transition to net-zero.

Oort Energy is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge hydrogen electrolyser stacks and their technology has undergone rigorous testing, from proof-of-concept work to testing at 10 kW scale. Having successfully delivered its first off-grid commercial electrolyser stack. This stack operates entirely off-grid, producing green hydrogen solely from solar energy.

WHAT WAS THE BRIEF & WHY WERE HSSMI BROUGHT IN?
Oort Energy is looking to establish a future testing facility to conduct the assembly and test of their PEM electrolyser products. HSSMI, with its extensive expertise across several industrial sectors, were brought in to provide support in designing an initial concept for a volume manufacturing operation.
We were keen to leverage our manufacturing experience and knowledge developed in other sectors to develop our expertise in this key net-zero area. To take ownership of delivering the industrialisation concept for Oort Energy’s new UK manufacturing facility.
HSSMI successfully delivered the business strategy for industrialising their proposed future UK based manufacturing facility, meeting Oort Energy’s ambitious growth plan.
WHAT DID HSSMI DO TO DELIVER THE RESULTS?
To deliver on this strategic aim and provide the capability that Oort Energy required, HSSMI’s experienced team of engineers with expertise in scaling up new technologies were able to support their ambitious timing plans for product delivery in a timely fashion.
The following points were essential in enabling HSSMI to support Oort Energy in delivering an outline business strategy on their manufacturing facilities that they required to meet their targets and to deliver the work to Oort Energy’s complete satisfaction.

WHAT WERE THE FINAL OUTPUTS & WHAT IMPACT HAS THIS MADE?
The final output for Oort Energy was a detailed design of a manufacturing plant, detailing the key requirements and overall costs (CAPEX / OPEX) of implementing the volume manufacturing facility. It provided a detailed roadmap and concept facility layouts, including equipment and manning requirements, to enable the development of their future volume manufacturing capabilities. Providing Oort Energy with a roadmap to delivery of an electrolyser Gigaplant for their unique PEM electotrolyser product range.
Included in the final deliverables were several key sections that were core components of this piece work. These were.

- Definition of Bill of sequence and Bill of process trackers
- Definition of facility Equipment list
- Definition of 2D CAD layout of production and logistics areas
- A high-level manpower assessment developed for the manufacturing facility
- Defined visualisation of manufacturing facility footprint
- Developed an outline facility timing plan
- High level view on initial CAPEX and OPEX costs for the manufacturing facility
- Preparation and delivery of final investor pack
The delivery of the final costed manufacturing for intermediate and large scale provided key information that Oort Energy can use to inform them on their future manufacturing strategy as they continue their product development journey to full commercialisation.
