Working at HSSMI | Meet New Starter Michael Kidby
HSSMI are excited for Michael to join the Manufacturing Engineering team as Manufacturing Manager. Michael has a decade of experience in manufacturing engineering and strategic planning, delivering solutions for industry leading automotive propulsion technologies from concept to launch across JLRs international footprint. Michael will be leading the Manufacturing Engineering team as they strive to be at the forefront of sustainable manufacturing across the globe.
Why did you decide to join HSSMI?
MK: I decided to join HSSMI because of the opportunities on offer to work across many different Manufacturing sectors. The organisation’s commitment to advancing sustainable practices and its focus on researching cutting-edge technologies align with my professional values and aspirations. I am eager to contribute to and learn from a team that combines decades of manufacturing experience with the innovations at the forefront of transforming manufacturing processes.
How has HSSMI and your team supported your development?
MK: Right from my first day I have had one to one conversations with people from across the organisation, and everyone was ready to listen about my career history and ambitions for the future. Getting to discuss these topics with different people has allowed me to benefit from the full range of their individual experiences and help me to shape my own path to personal development going forward. HSSMI’s collaborative environment and opportunities for professional growth make it an ideal place for me to develop my skills.
What do you appreciate most about working at HSSMI?
MK: Being able to work every day with people that share the same passion for engineering and innovation. I can discuss ideas and share in discussions with the whole team, knowing that everyone’s input is valued.
What are your expectations from working at HSSMI?
MK: I expect that I will be able to gain more exposure to industries outside of my own automotive and powertrain background, developing my skills as an engineer but also as a people manager. I hope to use my position to help grow the careers of the less experienced engineers in the business to make sure they have every opportunity to succeed.
How will working at HSSMI help your career?
MK: The exposure to such a wide range of projects and being in a customer facing role will help me to build a network of contacts across industries. HSSMI is also growing steadily as a business and being in a leadership role I hope to develop my business acumen being a part of that growth, while championing engineering excellence along the way.
